About the Courier
The Ellery Courier has come out every Thursday since June 1, 1911, when C. A. Bjornstad set up a hand press in a shed behind the bank and promised to print all the news of Ellery "without fear and without favor." Ed Mott bought the paper in 1946 and ran it for thirty-eight years. His daughter, Phyllis Mott, has been editor since.
We print births, weddings, deaths, who's visiting whom, what the elevator is paying, what the school board decided and who won the ballgame. If it happened in Ellery, it belongs in the Courier.
Sending in news
Notices, letters, birthdays, obituaries and photos can be dropped through the door of the office on Main Street, or mailed to Box 38, Ellery, Montana. News is due by Monday noon for that Thursday's paper. Obituaries and notices are printed free.
Subscribing
The Courier is 75 cents at the post office, the café and the elevator. A year's subscription is $30 in town and $38 by mail anywhere in the country. Send a check to Box 38 with the address it should go to. Many of our readers are people who grew up here and moved away, and we're glad to have them.
This website
This week's news goes up here every Thursday. The back issues are being typed up from the bound volumes by volunteers, a few at a time, and the Hanson Studio files are scanned as we go through the boxes. If you see a mistake or know a face, tell us at the office.
