Storm closes the roads
The worst blizzard since 1936 struck Ellery Sunday night and blew for three days. Drifts on Main Street were higher than the store windows, and every road out of town was closed until Wednesday, when the county plow got through from the west. The train was stalled east of town for twenty hours. No one was lost, but several farm families north of town have not been heard from, and the telephone lines are down.
School news
No school until Monday
The school board has called off classes until Monday, January 10, or until the roads are open, whichever is later.
