Dry year

A short, thin stand of wheat in cracked dry ground, the Ellery elevator on the horizon under a hazy sky. — Wheat on the Sundby place, south of town, on Monday.

Ellery has had less than two inches of rain since April, and the wheat south of town is burned short. The county has been declared a disaster area, and farmers can apply for emergency loans through the county office. Some fields will not be worth combining.

4-H

4-H fair entries due

Entries for the county fair are due at the extension office by July 26. The Ellery Go-Getters 4-H club meets Monday at the Nygaard place to get ready.
